Harvest

Every spring since 2008 I had always started some basil so I have supply throughout summer.  It may have started because of my frugality (the basil bunch is between $3.99 to $4.99 in the store).   Last spring was the most herbs I had started -- this time I had help, as B likes gardening too.  So this year for herbs we had parsley, basil, spearmint (which grew from last year!), peppermint, lemon basil, thyme, rosemary and oregano.   B also started Thai peppers, bell peppers, tomatoes and eggplant!

I'm excited for the harvest, especially when I see the price tag of the veggies (red bell pepper was $1.5/each!).   And when the eggplants are ready, I'll make caponata!

Green Wall

This summer we have the entire north end of the porch with vines.  This is the first time we planted moon flowers, to add a variety to the morning glories that we had been doing the last two years.  I can't wait for these to flower -- the morning glories will be open in the morning, the moon flowers at night.

And I can't wait that we get our own house....

Black Walnut Discovery

Once there was a squirrel
Pattering behind the Land Cruiser
Carrying a nut
Looking for a good burying spot
For the treasure it considered its pearl.

And one day B found a sapling
Which turned out was from a black walnut seedling
And thanks to the little guy
Someday we'll have a good tree to rely
Which we'll transplant near our house
Next to a habitat for grouse!
