Baboy*

Three weeks ago, Marsha called me to ask for help: she needed a command center to create a Barney cake for her niece Hannah.  I was happy to help - little did I know she has not really done something like a cake before.

We were up until 1am finishing the cake, which I think turned out fine.  I had the most fun with making animals out of fondant.  All of a sudden, I feel like being 5 years old again!  This one was my second creation.  The first one was a cat (or tiger, or as my sister called it, was a bear with a tiger face).  Then I made a duck, a dog and an owl.

Maybe this is the closest I can be as being artsy.

Pinoy Experiment

I can't remember what prompted me to try out this Filipino dish a few weeks ago. Maybe because there was chicken in the fridge. And that I always have rice, garlic and ginger stashed away in my pantry. Or maybe because B had encouraged/suggested I ought to try the Filipino stuff I sometimes crave.

So I did. And this was the result. My very first Arroz Caldo.

I am thinking my mother is smiling somewhere. I got some of her culinary genes after all...
