My Schengen Visa
One main reason I cannot wait to be eligible to carry an American passport -- hassle-free travel to most countries (i.e., no visa application, etc). I almost did not go through this process for the Schengen visa but I thought going to an International CME event would be nice. And plus, B is available to join me. I cringed when I learned that I have to have bought the plane tickets and hotel accommodations as part of the requirement. Not to mention health insurance coverage while in the Schengen allies. And I had to ask for a notarized letter confirming my employment and how much I earn! Geez. Oh, and don't forget to prove you have money to spend! I actually looked at Australian Visa application which surprisingly seemed as easy as obtaining the Canadian one.
But what surprised me is that I can only be transient in the other Schengen countries, despite the visa being valid for multiple entry for 1 year! If I want to get the most mileage out of this, perhaps I should plan for a several European country hopping trip before it expires! Sigh.
