Name This Plant
When I got my first apartment, one of the first thing I bought was a house plant. It was a Fortune Plant -- at least that's how I've always known how it's called and it's something my mother always had. The plant survived 4 moves -- including the interstate travel from Chicago to Grand Rapids. But in 2010, it caught something and it started to wilt, and I couldn't save it. When I looked for a replacement, it was then I realized that it's called Massageana Cane here (my family always referred it as Fortune Plant)...
Eventually, I decided to get another species, to add a little color in my place. So I got the one pictured. Now, it had a different tag when I got it, but these are abundant in the Philippines -- and during the summer, I see it part of the tropical plant in downtown Chicago streets. I have always called this San Francisco plant -- I got this in a small pot, and around Spring last year was the second time I transplanted it because it needed a bigger pot. I have never seen it bloom! Until last year. And it repeated this year with a longer and more flowers!
Maybe I don't have a brown thumb after all.
