Bones

A week before last Thanksgiving, I slipped at work and shortly thereafter began to have a nagging vague pain on my left wrist. I hardly recall how exactly I fell -- but the bruising on my left knee indicated I hit the floor with my left knee, and I most likely eventually had my left hand supporting my fall. I did remember how quickly I got up (isn't that a usual response in a rather embarrassing situation?).
Doctors are the worst kind of patients. I had to remind myself that my previous bout with a real illness went undiagnosed mainly because I thought I knew exactly what was going on. So when I still felt the discomfort two weeks later (no matter how minute), I decided I better have it checked.
I almost demanded for an MRI after I looked at the film (I was later reprimanded I shouldn't have looked at my own film but I argued that then the system should have prevented me from doing so. Which reminded me of having a Chest Xray during residency that I couldn't upload because I can't open my own file when I'm the one logged on, but I'm digressing). I knew then nothing is wrong. Or to be more precise, nothing is wrong that a regular film can detect. Afterall, I learned long ago that a very small fracture of any of the small wrist bones is often only seen by an MRI.
Maybe my big bones just saved me. Who knew I'm actually going to have a moment thanking I have big bones?

Yes, that is indeed a radiograph of my left hand.

Hi Minnie! Found your blog through browsing and really enjoyed it.
I am SO glad you did not break anything. I am just recovering from a proximal humerus fracture, which is what I have blogged about lately. What a nightmare!
I'll look forward to keeping up with your musings.
Cheers,
Marie
Thanks Marie.
I hope you recover well. Fractures certainly are nightmares!
